Hi, my name is Cheryll and art has always been a big part of my life. As far back as I can remember, my mother, an artist, was challenging me to look at the beauty that surrounds me…to see the designs created by nature like dew on a spider’s web or the patterns of the wispy clouds. By the time I was 12 or 13, metal and jewelry had been declared to be my medium and outlet of choice. It was around that same time my parents gave me my first pair of round nose pliers and a bag of horseshoe nails. At that moment, moving to the mountains (don’t ask me why the mountains) and making jewelry became my dream.
In the early 80’s I moved to the hills of East Tennessee and was working for a jeweler. It was during this time I ran across a recipe in a magazine about making rose petal beads. Finally I had something to do with all of my dried roses and maybe something unique for my jewelry.
Fast-forward more than 25 years… I am now living in Knoxville, TN, I’ve married a wonderful guy and we’ve raised two fabulous children…I’m still making my rose beads but it’s only for family and friends and I’m working in corporate America. It was casual Friday so I decided to wear a rose bead ankle bracelet that was about 27 years old. The design was simple but cute and the beads still smelled wonderful. Several times during the day I could hear people when they walked by my cubical say that they could smell flowers. At first I didn’t think anything about it, then it dawned on me… The flower scent was my ankle bracelet! By the end of the day I had two people interested in me making them something with their roses.
It was that weekend Beads of a Rose bloomed!
